Hi.

I've enjoyed playing on the FH servers quite a bit, so I figured I'd drop by the forums. I don't get to play COD4 that often, but when I do I head to FH. So hello, pleased to meet you all.


Also, I asked a couple people on server at one point about testing a level I'm coming out with. They seemed interested, so I'll extend the invitation here as well. If you are interested in looking for bugs for a pre-release level, or just want to make criticisms and observations let me know.

Its supposed to be called mp_lockdown. But I choose to call it mp_oreshek, since that is what the place is modeled after.


I just finished a round of testing, and am fixing the bugs my friends found. Once I recompile the map, I can pm you the link.

Please do moon, looks like it will be fun to play. Hows the FPS though? Most custom maps that have this much detail and, from the looks of it, large size tend to kill even the better computer's fps...

I think a lot of problems with custom maps come from bad portaling. There's also various tricks which are overlooked. Mitring brush faces to reduce poly counts, efficent terrain mesh creation, etc... I saw a custom map with no caulk faces at all too.

But I digress. The FPS is good. :)

Nothing wrong with those questions at all. I actually made a tutorial on the subject at one time. I can show you a couple pics illustrating the point.


If you look at this first picture, you'll see two brushes used to make adjoining walls. However, the first brush is using two faces to achieve this effect. Therefor you have one brush face with 2 triangles, and a 2 other brush faces each containing 2 tris for a total of 4.

By simply joining the brush faces by beveling the two brushes where they meet(creating a mitre) we remove the unneeded face which eliminates 2 triangles. That's two less triangles for the game to render, meaning it does less work. In the long term, taking these steps can really be a boon to FPS.

About the uncaulked faces, that happens a lot lol. I've seen entire levels from game studios containing no or very little caulk. Jka, sof2, elite force, etc

and if it run in search and destroy I know another place to run it ...

if u want to test it I have a server test ... (S&D + openwarfare)

( thx to all mappers to create maps )

I'd have to look into the specifics of openwarfare and then get back to you. Also, S&D support would be really quick and easy to add. The map isn't ready for release just yet. Still needs heli pathing, a mini map, final touch ups etc...


It's about 92 percent complete in it's current state.

All you have to do is extract the archive and all it's contents into your COD4 folder and then run the run_rzgmap.bat that gets placed into your COD4 folder.

Thanks for the heads up! I changed the zip structure to usermaps/mapname like it's supposed to be. You may want to try the lastest version at https://www.dropbox.com/s/bidstfyb644nfxu/mp_rzg_alpha.zip (https://www.dropbox.com/s/bidstfyb644nfxu/mp_rzg_alpha.zip). It actually has the full portal prefab, a minimap and the loading screen. As well as the vision tweaks etc etc etc

I played on it for about an hour and found several easy glitches/bugs in the map that you might want to fix soon. I am going to take a couple more walkthroughs then make a detailed post with screenshots and stuff to help you fix them if you so want.

Thanks! Yeah, the scale has been an issue from the start. It was my first COD map period, and I hadn't played much COD before diving into it. I got really really far, so I couldn't effectively reduce the scale without being super cheesy.

I'm planning another level right now that is a dusk sanitarium/asylum environment. I promise the scale will be much better! Also, thank you for taking so much time to test the level. I'd absolutely love to see the glitches you found and fix them.

Pretty much what needs to be polished is fixing all the spawns, adding snd support etc... Finish the minimap, add helicopter paths, change the map name to it's proper name. mp_oreshek, and of course all the bugs you guys find.

same feeling for me beautiful but (very) huge, but in TDM or SD I think it will be a great maps

I think its your 1st map, I hope it wont be the last because I can wait to play the next one ...

This is going to be a long one, so bare with me.

Ok, I finally finished peeking around your map. I found quite a few glitches, but nothing that should be too hard to finish. I will explain each one in detail. Great map by the way! Should be fun to play soon!

Ok, I forgot to take a before pic on this one, but it is fairly easy to explain. This is in the main courtyard in the corner by the huge trash pile. All you have to do to get out of the map/fall under is jump on the tractor and walk out. You can also get over that fence by jumping from the hang man place right next to it. Should be a simple fix of putting a invisible barrier over the top of that fence all the way down.

Next, is an area on the opposite side of the wall that is behind me in the last picture. Is is really easy to walk around the rocks and walk around the tree and tractor to fall out of the map. It is even possible to cross over and get on the ramp that goes to the top of the wall from there.

Next is the tractor kinda in that same area of the map. It is as easy as a sprint jump to get on the tractor and then I could get out of the map. Or, fall in a hole and get stuck haha.

Now, back in the courtyard on the opposite side with the MG. It is as easy as getting on the wall and sprinting over to the concrete barriers which you can then get out from.

Ok, this one is outside on the dock side of the map up the hill from the tower. All you need to do is walk up and jump onto the fence!

This one is right next to the tower. I forgot to take a before pic on this one again, but all that you need to do is climb up the ladder on the tanker then jump over to this fence to get out.

Ok, this one is just odd. It was a really lucky find, but in a corner of the map, on the side with the tractor jump where I got stuck, you walk to where I am pointing and you fall under the map. The floor there just isn't solid.

Thanks for the detailed bug list. Indeed all of those would take about 10 minutes or less to fix. I'll get on it asap.

You can't do that in the latest version on my DB. I added a large clip brush. You shouldn't be able to jump in from any height.
