Title: Friends in Spec Not Cheating?
Post by: fatal_kiss on November 22, 2020, 12:32:43 am
Hey, so I'm coming from a context wherein an old clan I was in, CS7, used to maintain a quality and healthy relationship with FH. This was some years ago and for the old heads. Anyway...

Recently I've noticed a trend of having friends in spec. And also clan members playing without tags. Sometimes the clan members, and "random players" in spec are present and sometimes not. It seems that at times, clan members, such as RaeRae, benefit from having clan members in spec, like going from a 1 to 2 KTD ratio to the inverse of that. Sometimes there's no benefit, because the clan member isn't actually present.

When I ask, "is it okay to have friends in spec?" The answer by clan members is always "no". And then I point out that their clan members are in spec and the answer is always a resounding, "yes, because we are above the law." Paraphrased, of course. Then I am threatened by members wearing tags and those without tags, Birdie, that I will be muted or banned etc. They keep goading me and my "argument" doesn't change because it's pretty simple. If someone is in spec, we have no way of knowing whether they are present or not, or if they are assisting their friends unfairly, unless we see drastic changes in a fellow clan members performance. Maybe they're just "watching for cheaters". Or maybe not. And how does one KNOW? We don't.

Which is why reputable clans and servers, like this one used to be, have admin PLAYING and only in spec when there's a need. When players are complaining and bringing it to their attention that they should be watching someone. Or sometimes they just pop in randomly to spec for a minute, make sure things are up to par, and then resume playing. It's unfortunate that the response to legitimate suspicion is met with threats and strawman arguments because it kind of implies that the strong suspicions are more likely correct than otherwise.

I hope this issue can be resolved. I won't be bringing it up in the server again. I'll simply leave when I notice there's an unfair game occurring. I never leave a game otherwise. I know how long the match is and choose to play it until the end if I start it.

Hi Fatal Kiss

You have done the right thing in bringing your question here.

I have looked back through your chats and there are no issues with FH admin antagonising or threatening you and in fact they did a great job.  Yes, you will eventually be ‘muted’ if you continue to go on and on as the logs show, so bringing it to the forum is a good move.

I found your post puzzling to be honest.  To summarise, my understanding is that you suspect our admin go to spec to assist other admin by alerting them to strategic issues via voice chat.

COD4 was released in 2007 and the good people in FH play for the love of the game and for the comradery of being in a clan full of like-minded people…..we don’t play to win every game or cheat.  I have been in FH for 7 years and other clans before that and never heard this issue raised before in any serious context.

It is and will continue to be our prerogative to choose to sit in spec or not and I personally sit in spec most of each weekend.  I occasionally jump in and play or I might be watching a player, I might be recording a player, I might be walking the dog……but one thing is for sure, I am not telling another player where the enemy is.

To suggest this is the reason for a player’s KDR improving is nonsense.

Your reference that FH is no longer reputable is not appreciated.  Play on.

How obtuse to ignore the fact that just because *you* do not partake in cheating doesn't mean that others, in your clan, don't. How is it absurd to be suspicious of ones KTD ration dramatically improving and then regressing and improving again when other factors, such as someone being in spec, are at play? That's observation, and it has been a trend for months, not just the last match.

"I found your post puzzling to be honest.  To summarise, my understanding is that you suspect our admin go to spec to assist other admin by alerting them to strategic issues via voice chat."  How is this puzzling? Yeah, people have been doing it for years... They go into Vent, or whatever voice chat software you're using, and tell their friends where people are at. Wall banging with accuracy frequently is one sign of this. It's not some "crazy" rare thing that happens, it's not complex either.

Reputable would be taking these things seriously. Which you just proved you're unwilling do to. No mention of even wanting to investigate the matter, just simply blind defending. I doubt I'll have anything else to say on the matter because I doubt anyone will be respectful enough to actually take their duties seriously and inquire into the matter. - AMOR.

We are a close group – we don’t cheat thanks.

Wall banging accuracy on a game that is 13 years old doesn’t take someone telling you where to aim via voice chat – it just takes a memory of common places, map knowledge and a little luck.  Good KDRs vs bad are a part of any game as people have good games and bad games so lets not waste our time on such noise.

Thanks for acknowledging you won’t have more to say on the matter.  That is twice now, so I will call the post closed.

If you aren’t happy with the server, perhaps you are best finding somewhere else to play.
