Title: How to Record/Playback Demos
Post by: {FH}Pear on October 01, 2013, 03:02:44 am
When reporting a cheater or a suspicious player, a demo will be used when we make our decision. Demos are captured in-game using the console. Demos are millions upon millions of times better than a ?video;? this is due to their size, as well as the fact that the user can use in-game developer functions when reviewing them.

In order to use the in-game recorder open console (the ` key next to the number 1) and type '/record'
Once you've taken your demo, open console again and type '/stoprecord'

Now we need to find your demo?s saved location. Most computers will automatically save CoD to the C:\ drive, so open up my computer (You may need to go into control panel and reveal hidden folders). The demo is a dm_1 file and will be named demo0000.dm_1 the next demo will be demo0001.dm_1 and so on.

If you installed CoD4 by retail disc, your demos will be located here:
C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 ? Modern Warfare\main\demos

If it is a Steam install, they will be located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Call of Duty 4\main\demos

Now that you have located your .dm_1 file, you are ready to post it on the forums.
Make a new post, title it as you please (The hacker's in-game name, etc). To attach the demo, click on the "Attachments and other options" line that is located underneath the main text body of the post.
From here, you can browse to your demo on your computer and select it for upload. Upon posting the new topic, your demo will be available for everyone to download as an attachment!

This may sound complicated and burdening, but once you?ve done it once or twice, it becomes simple and is a great way to keep organized, view possible hackers, or just show off your skills. Through this method, the original .dm_1 file retains sound and allows you to speed up or slow down the recording so you can focus on important sections.

How to view a Demo:
A simple way of viewing original demos is to use cod4player. This application launches original .dm_1 files from the in-game recorder. Before starting the demo you have to close the game completely.

Here is the original website download:
http://www.cybopat.net/vb_cod4player_eng.php (http://www.cybopat.net/vb_cod4player_eng.php)
I have also attached it to this post in case the webpage goes down for any reason.

Cod4player comes in a zipped archive, WinRAR will extract it:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)
Choose your corresponding file/OS and download. WinRAR is a trial program, but after your trial expires, all you need to do is hit ?close? each time you use it and it continues to work.

Thank you for the help keeping our servers? cheat free!
Title: Demos for Macs!
Post by: {FH}Pear on October 01, 2013, 03:04:02 am
Everything we have talked about above has been related to Windows. But, some of us use Macs, so here you go. :)

Recording is the same, once in-game:

Now to obtain the demo for upload. Your demo's location depends on whether or not you installed via the install disc (Retail Version) or the App Store version.

[Retail Version] /Applications/Call of Duty 4/Call of Duty 4 Data/main/demos/
[Mac App Store Version] /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Call of Duty 4/main/demos/

If you are using the App Store Version with OSX 10.7/10.8, then the file path is hidden. Press CMD+Shift+G to bring up a search window in Finder and type in '~/library' to access your /Users/USERNAME/Library/ directory. You can this progress to /Application Support/Call of Duty 4/main/demos/.

Now in order for a Mac user to play back the demos, you must make new directories in this location:

[Retail Version] /Applications/Call of Duty 4/Call of Duty 4 Data/Mods/ModWarfare/demos/
[Mac App Store Version] /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Call of Duty 4/Mods/ModWarfare/demos/

Then copy the demo into that folder. After that, you can open the game, go to mods, and load Modwarfare. Bring up console, type "/demo <demoname>" .
