Title: Anyone have experience restoring an old Caddy?
Post by: Breaker on September 30, 2012, 09:12:44 pm
I was thinking about getting a cool, old convertible I could restore or have restored.  We have several 67-75 convertible cadillacs for sale in my area (south Texas) that run but need full interior and exterior restoration.  Anyone have experience restoring or any advice - especially for a guy with little experience?  I thought it would be a fun, family project - get us out of the house and away from COD4!

Anyway - thought I would solicit your opinions.  I love the look of the older 59-60 with the fins, but there aren't many available here.  I also love the old Lincoln Continental Convertible, but they are not available in my area.

Thanks,
Breaker

I have no experience w/Caddies........but I have worked on alot of old rigs and cars.  Remember the cheaper it is the more problems you are going to have (usually).  You shouldn't have too much trouble locating parts and there are many repro dealers online.  Also it depends on what you want to do with it.......concourse resto, custom, something that looks nice from 20 feet, ratrod etc.  They all have advantages and disadvantages.  Let me know what your vision is and maybe I can help there.......I personally look for a vehicle with strong motor and tranny first then look for decent floors then body.
