Title: Need suggestions
Post by: {FH}Mythbhavd on November 16, 2019, 11:18:11 am
Alright ladies and gents,

My oldest daughter (7 years old) is autistic. We have a cat who is one of the sweetest animals that I've ever encountered. However, I have a serious problem. This cat keeps peeing on the carpet in a certain spot. I have tried shampooing the carpet, spraying it with pet pee stuff, and adding litter boxes. I am ready to A) Kill the cat. B) give it away. C) Kill the cat with prejudice. The problem is that it is the only animal we have with whom Hannah has formed a tight bond. The cat loves her and will let her hold it and pet it. It is extremely gentle. So, I'm find myself in a conundrum. Kill the cat? Give it away? Keep it? Does ANYONE know a way to stop a cat from peeing in a set place?

From what I've read, cats will do this as a territorial marking.
One idea I found is: "Use an enzymatic cleaner rather than an ammonia based one. Ammonia-based cleaners may cause your cat to urinate more often on the spot because she/he may interpret the ammonia as another cat’s urine that she/he must cover up with her/his own urine."

This may sound very mean but I’ve had cats basically my entire life and the trick to stop them urinating at a specific spot is to literally grab them by the scruff of the neck and rub their face in it every time they do it and they will stop urinating in that spot because they understand the next time they do it they are going to have their face rubbed in it. Also when they use the litter box you must reward them afterwards with a treat to get them thinking each time they use it they will get a treat. This is a legitimate tactic to stop it from happening. My entire family know me as the cat whisperer because I have tamed wild cats and made them domesticated and all cats seem to love me lol. Hope this helps so your daughter gets to keep her friend and you don’t have to clean anymore cat pee lol

Myth - I completely empathize with your conundrum.

Here you have what I would consider to be a, 'therapy cat', for your daughter who loves it so much and gives her interaction which she so desperately needs.  On the other hand, cat urine is absolutely the worst.

I have often heard that if you place food in the area which they are prone to piss in, they'll stop as they will refuse to urinate in a place where they feed.

Thus, it may serve well to place her/his food in that exact spot, even if it means having to walk around it if it be in a high-traffic location.  If it works, keep it there for a few weeks while it continues to use the litter box.   After a while, you can relocate the food to a more appropriate area.

Hey Myth - my miss 4 has been diagnosed with autism as well.  On the cat - - has it been fixed?  Maybe fixing it will stop the problem?  I would suggest looking for a cat forum on facebook and asking the members for some good ideas.

I would try Cheeses suggestion first. Sounds like it has a good chance of working.

ME TOOOO...I have four indoor cats . Three females and one male...All have been fixed. I have this one cat that urinates in one spot every so often. It's really turned into a serious cat and mouse game. Me watching his every move when he starts to go into the problem room... sneaking up behind him, to catch him in the act ...so i can rub his snought pump into it, Driving me crazy. I know he knows i am trying to catch him. When he sees me watching him , He knows he is busted, the turd turns around and reverses course. Nothing worse than the smell cat urine, in a home.
Thanks for the advise ... :worthy:

i am allergic to cats, so unless they are tiny kittens i do not have cats in my house.
HOWEVER...i used to. Hence how i found out i was allergic lol.
Someone told me once to use a spray bottle with a long stream range. Keep it close and every time you see the cat go near the spot spray him but dont let him see you doing it! If he doesnt see YOU doing it he wont associate you with the punishment, just the act.  When i wasnt home i put one of those spray fresheners with motion sensor directed at the spot hidden in a potted plant.
It takes some time to trick the cat but it worked for me.
I also hated cats on my kitchen table and especially kitchen counters...i would put foil up there so when they jumped it would scare them when they landed and they stopped doing that too. But the spray bottle worked the absolute best in my opinion. For everything lol

Grimes is pleased with the responses for Myth's cat problem and though I should not attempt to add anything further to it.  (for a variety of reasons)  Why I am compassionate and understanding when it comes to animals, though for the sake of your family and daughter.

If you lay some type of rubber matting - material over the area and hotwire a good ole powerful battery with wires across the matting.  Upon the cat deciding to piss on it, the cat will find the electrical charge unpleasant and unwarranted. (in the cats eyes)

Wishing you and the family the best holidays !
