Title: FFA/TDM/Promod Server IP Change
Post by: {FH}Pear on August 21, 2024, 02:56:28 am
TL;DR: Our server IP is changing to 104.153.109.79:28960. Update your favorites! You can also use cod4.fhclan.com as I have updated the DNS record.

I think everyone is aware of the recent issues regarding choppy network traffic and massive lag spikes and even seconds long packet loss. I've been engaged with our hosting provider since July in troubleshooting and raising complaints to try and get this fixed. Our hosting provider was apparently having issues across the board internally with their main upstream provider (Unitas Global, for the curious ones). I received a notice today that our provider is terminating that relationship and replacing those connections with something that is hopefully more stable and performant.

Unfortunately because we've been a customer with our provider for a long time, our IP was allocated back during a time when our hosting provider allocated IPs from the upstream vendor. Since that relationship will be terminated, we are losing our IP that we have been using since 5 April 2013. We received a new IP address to begin using immediately, in order to allow us to prepare for the upcoming change to the upstream connection. While our new IP is already active, the new upstream connection is not active yet, I will reply with the new status when our upstream connection has been updated.

The outcome was not desired nor asked for, but apparently the issues we've been seeing are widespread and affecting more than just us, the upstream party involved is does not care, and so our provider is trying to do what they think is the best way to solve these issues for their customers.

I've updated the bot to spam the new IP and a reminder about using the domain name as an alternative. Our hosting provider noted that our old IP can remain active until ~15 September 2024 when they terminate the relationship with the upstream provider, but I recommend you update to 104.153.109.79 as soon as possible. I've  configured the new IP to the server a few minutes ago, so you can already use it to connect.

I will now pray that I get the same ping as G.I.Jane    :darkfriar

The cutoff date we were given for relinquishing the IP back to Unitas Global (the upstream provider) has now passed! Our hosting provider no longer has control over the IP and therefore neither do we.

For now, the old IP continues to route to the server, but the old IP can/will stop working at any point in time now, once Unitas Global decides what they're going to do with it. Hopefully you've already started using the new IP!
