My first post to the forums I thought I should make it honest and maybe a bit fun for you guys. I collect random militaria and one of the things I purchased was a practise claymore mine - complete with cables, clacker and bag. Well I had it sitting around for a few years and thought man I
ll sell it on
www.trademe.co.nz where I purchased it. So up it went.....
I tried to answer a question on the auction and it was blocked. I checked my emails and the site asked me to provide a "proof of life" photo. No joke they wanted a photo of the claymore mine on a recent newspaper. So I did this and emailed off to them. They then responded and told me that the NZ Defence Force wanted to speak to me about the claymore.
I called some guy who explained that the claymore was "theirs" and that it represented a risk being in the public domain. I didnt want to cause any issues and told them that I would love to swap it for a decommissioned RPG. They turned up to my work in full uniform and took possession of it and asked what else I had.....a couple of hand grenades, a small airplane bomb, a rocket, a cluster bomblet....and then I stopped pondering the wisdom of it. They gave me some poxy vest that someone had used in Afghanistan and painted and the damn zip wouldnt work.
Anyways fast forward to about 6 months ago and another claymore mine came up on the same website. Damn I bought that quick smart and thankfully with this I have a history that I can say "fuck ya" if they try and take it off me. The seller was an ex-SAS association president and told me he came along it quite legally.
I guess thought....what do you do with a claymore mine.....hmmmmm
