I'm not going to go on a rant about admin uniformity. Each circumstance and person is different so perspectives are going to vary. However I have noticed trends in which some admins have different interpretations of the "spawn camping/killing" rule which is in place for TDM & FFA.
I have a few questions/concerns about that myself:
I know very well that the intention of the rule is not to warn for spawn killing, but for annoying spawn camping where players take advantage of the spawns by trolling or staying just behind the spawn to get consecutive kills.
For the most part your admins are FAIR and reasonable and understand the game, spawns and how they work with each map. They understand that when a team wont push out or if they lack the skill to do so that eventually the spawn point will be overun and the spawn points will switch sides. As frustrating as that may be sometimes, it's part of the game.
My understanding of spawn camping would be if I were sitting pointed at a spawn POINT or sitting within the spawns killing people as they materialized onto the map. Or if I was continually pointed at an exit of a "one way out" spawn area. I read the definition on the server for spawn camping, and I agree with it completely, but it doesn't seem that ALL of the admins do.
For instance.. let us throw out the map Countdown for reference. Countdown has very few spawn points, as it is a tiny map. Players consistently spawn in the hangers and the areas adjacent. Enemies spawn in the hanger, but don't push out of the hanger and are just sitting there. If I see them first upon my approach and fire on the enemy who is still in their own spawn area, am I wrong? I killed them in their spawn.. yes.. but had I not they may have killed me instead. See the enemy, kill the enemy or be killed yourself.. right?
I got warned for this very thing. Why? I wasn't in their spawn building/area. I was outside and approaching the area highlighted by UAV to have enemies. I killed 2 which were in corners in spawn (one which was the admin that warned me) and one that was engaging me from spawn. If I had propped up on one of the silo lids and aimed into spawn for several minutes killing players as they materialized, I could see getting a warning for it, but that was not the case at all. I was in fact on foot, on the move and looking in multiple directions through the entirety of my play. Admin said that I was camping spawn so I asked for clarification and got told to "play on"? What good is a warning, when I don't understand what I did to get it in the first place? A second player was then warned for similar and received a similar response to his questioning why.
There are maps in the rotation where spawn killing is inevitable. Where the enemy exiting the spawn is all you really get and you have to infiltrate the spawn to play the game (Vacant, Shipment, Cargoship & Countdown). Spawns were made to be infiltrated and exterminated so that they can shift to another part of the map and keep the game moving. Unless a team completely backs off and doesn't move past the middle of the map, spawn killing is going to happen, so why should players get warned for something they cannot avoid?
Soooo I guess my suggestion would be (if there is not already) a sit down where you guys all know what is warnable and what isn't? I don't know the ins and outs of your clan or whether you do any type of admin training in the ways of situation management or if you teach to consider all variables before taking action against a player. If you do these things already, great. I know it can be time consuming and tedious but inconsistencies in admining can lead to some pretty frustrated regulars and eventually to empty servers.
Not trying to be fussy but it isn't the first time I've seen it and I just want good for you guys since I enjoy playing here.
